guidelines

0• Tos & community guidelines

As is required, we abide by and enforce Discord Terms of Service and Community Guidelines. This covers obvious ideas like no illegal activities, do not engage in terrorism, and other more niche topics like you agreeing that you are above 13 and do not promote misinformation. If you encounter violations of either of these, contact staff or submit a report.

1• Respect

Maintain a sense of respect for everyone aboard, regardless of personal differences.  Treat everybody with respect and kindness. The galaxy is diverse, embrace said diversity. Do not engage in any form of bigotry, harassment, or discrimination of any kind. Everyone should feel safe here, regardless of their background, identity, or beliefs.

2• spamming

We do not allow spamming of any content, including images, links, media, or any other content that disrupts chat. Keep the chat clean, relevant, and PG-13. Spamming does include posting repetitively, excessive use of emojis, or constant and unnecessary tagging of members or staff. Continue to keep the conversations meaningful and enjoyable for everyone.

3• Content appropriateness

Keep all content appropriate for a diverse audience that is representative of what you would find on discord. We serve content to all of those ages 13 and up and thus, we maintain a PG-13 level of content. Avoid posting any form of explicit content, including graphic violence and sexual content. Mild cursing is allowed, but refrain from directing it at others and keep it to a minimum.

4• privacy

Do not share your personal information and definitely do not share other's personal information. This includes phone numbers, names, locations, and any other personal details that can serve to identify a person. Respect everyone's privacy and cease any actions against another if they ask you to stop.

5• Channels

Use the channels for their intended purposes and keep all discussions relevant and on-topic. If you are not sure what a channel is used for you can read the channel description or the pinned messages. We aim to keep our server organized and accessible to all and to foster an atmosphere of joy and activity.

6• Common sense

Use common sense when it comes to interacting with anyone aboard. If something feels off, or feels rude, or just feels wrong... then it probably is and you should probably avoid doing it. This encompasses the ideas of no trolling, being generally toxic, and maintaining some sort of respect. If you have any questions on what is allowed or not, you may ask staff.

1• Consent

You must obtain the consent of all parties prior to the introduction of major plot points, character development, or character control. This rule also applies to engaging in combat or any situation wherein you may injure another party. Events come with implied consent for injury or combat scenarios.

2• immersion

You should stay "in-character" when roleplaying and your character should not "break the fourth wall." You should work to maintain immersion whenever possible and this includes the idea that you should keep all out-of-roleplay content to a minimum within roleplay channels, and you should work to delete them after they have been acknowledged.

3• God-modding

Avoid god-modding, meta-gaming, power-gaming, and anything of the like. Do not exert direct or indirect control over other's characters, do not involve outside ("actor") knowledge with inside ("character") knowledge, and keep your characters realistic. Your character is not a superhero, is not a god, and they do not know everything you do.

4• Lore consistency

The server maintains its own established lore, and we work to respect Star Trek lore within our own lore. Most of Memory Alpha and Memory Beta are considered "server canon" unless otherwise specified, this includes STO lore within our own. We require you to respect this lore within the roleplay and we ask that you maintain consistency within that.

5• writing

While we do not expect every writer to have the same writing length or style, we do expect detailed writing that gives your partner to work with. Single sentence replies do not do that, and we expect those to be kept to a minimum. Work towards creating a scene with vivid imagery and thoughts/emotions.

5• staff intervention

Respect any interventions made by the Game Masters or Moderators of the server. They are there to ultimately guide to roleplay along in a manner consistent with the rules and established lore. They are not there to direct you on how to roleplay or what your scenes should be. If they tell you you cannot do one thing, don't do it.
